Hi Evan, please tell us a little about you?
I am a full-time astrologer who essentially stumbled into the profession after getting a concussion at a nightclub in New York, which eventually led me to a spiritual awakening and a disillusionment with my career as a digital strategist and data analyst. I also am an avid musician and have been performing and songwriting for two decades.
Shortly after my concussion in New York, I collected a Labradorite crystal unwittingly and then began connecting with a tree on the East River in Manhattan. These mystifying experiences compounded when I moved to Los Angeles and a friend recommended astrology to me. I immersed myself in every book I could find, and within four months, I had a sufficient level of understanding to accurately read people’s birth charts. A few months later, I launched my own astrology practice. Some astrologers say you need 5–10 years of preparation to go full-time, but I firmly believe I reawakened skills from a past life and bypassed this arbitrary expectation.
Describe yourself in 3 words.
Relentless, Open-Minded, and creative
What’s the most common misconception about astrology you encounter, and how do you respond to it?
That astrology is only based on your sun sign. I find myself dispelling that rumor almost everyday when skeptics take this angle to attack astrology. Astrology is a cosmic symphony more than anything, tracking the motion and positions of all the celestial bodies at once. In truth, astrology grounds itself in many of the same observational principles as astronomy, the difference being that astrology posits there is a correlation between planetary positioning and human behavior (as well as collective evolution).
A skilled astrologer can interpret the combination of these celestial influences and pinpoint specific ages or even days when someone moved homes, got a divorce, received a promotion, and more. I’m also hopeful that the misconception about astrology will dissipate as society embraces the intuitive arts in the wake of science’s failure to articulate the experiences of the human soul.
Based on astrological compatibility, which two zodiac signs do you think would make the most surprising yet successful partnership and why?
Gemini and Scorpio combine intellectual curiosity with relentless depth. Although these signs do not share the same modality or duality, they can stimulate each other’s need for more information. The Gemini can bring a playfulness that lightens the Scorpio’s occasionally brooding nature, while the Scorpio can encourage the Gemini to intensify their investigation into a certain topic.
If you had to live as another zodiac sign for a month, which one would you choose, and what do you think the experience would be like?
I would love to be an Aquarius for a while and better understand how they balance their sense of responsibility with their thirst for societal change. Aquarius is ruled by both Saturn and Uranus and the sign can manifest in vastly different ways. I also find many Aquariuses can maintain a level of detachment that allows them to socialize with large groups of people, which, as a Scorpio, I find stressful in many ways.
I think I would find myself being removed from my emotions in an eerie way that nevertheless would give me a more effortless ability to throw myself into new social settings. However, my Aquarius North Node is already starting to activate in some of these ways lately. I do find myself wanting to upend status quo perspectives through my social media presence, so I am growing into an Aquarius as is. But I would still be curious to understand the experiences of having personal placements in the sign.
Now tell us about the huge TikTok & IG success and what are you doing to keep it going and growing even more?
I started my TikTok in earnest in September 2021 and one of my first videos reached a million views. At that time, I was making comedic videos about zodiac couples (e.g. “The Most Vomit-Worthy Couple,” “The Couple You’ve Never Heard of,” “The Most Dangerous Couple,” etc.) but eventually I pivoted towards more serious content that was either educational or predictive.
I was relieved to see even more positive responses to those informative videos, which proved that TikTok was about much more than pure entertainment. I built a consistent routine around content creation, posting at least one video per day for almost two years. I also created a process where I brainstormed video scripts whenever I’d jog outside, and then I would film one sentence at a time and splice it all together so there were no “ums”, “likes” and even no blinking (I still don’t blink in any of my videos).
I carried this approach over to Instagram in early 2023 and subsequently built up a sizable following there. It’s been so enjoyable creating content on both platforms and I’m grateful for those who watch my videos. Gratitude is what fuels me. I would never want to become jaded by what I do. I remind myself everyday how lucky I am, but also acknowledge how much work I’ve put in.
My mentality is to be an Astro weatherman of sorts, and my followers seem to be aligned with what I’m trying to build, which is encouraging. I also make sure to go Live once per week at a consistent time to prove that I’m capable of hosting a show. One of my goals is to manifest a TV show from these efforts on social media.
As a popular horoscope and astrology expert, you are followed by so many people. How do you feel about the pressure to always do the right thing and encourage people to follow their dreams?
I think it’s important to take small risks and stretch outside my comfort zone every day; that way, it doesn’t feel so daunting to put myself out there in the public eye. I often go hiking, run outside, do breath work, and get my body moving in order to minimize my stress levels.
And I feel qualified to encourage people to follow their dreams, given the fact that I stepped away from a stable corporate career despite everyone’s advice against it. That decision to pursue the road less traveled, and finding success with it motivates me to advocate for authenticity in the most genuine way.
I also feel like the world is in a borderline existential crisis precisely because so many people have been stripped of their dreams. I have a firm conviction deep in my bones to spread the truth, which is that fear and self-consciousness are the insidious forces keeping so many people stuck. I just want to lead by example and let other people roam as wild as I did. It’s all about rediscovering one’s own inner child.
If you were a book, what would be the title of the book and why?
I just wrote a fictionalized book about the past three years of my life and my bizarre cross-over journey from digital strategist in New York to astrologer in Los Angeles. Sometimes I feel like I’m the incarnation of irony, speaking about astrology as if I were in a practical business meeting. But then I found the magic in that story and I’m really happy with how the book unfolded. I’m going to be looking for an agent and, subsequently, a publisher very soon! Ironically, only the title remains TBD.
What’s next for Evan Nathaniel Grim in 2024?
I am exploring the possibility of my own podcast with a unique twist. As mentioned, I’d also love to get my book published. And I would also like to continue doing live, in-person events in which I do cold readings of audience members. I also have shows in LA lined up with my indie rock band.
What do you think of social media?
Social media is an incredible tool for spreading knowledge and collaborating. Older generations who rip it are making baseless generalizations about entire platforms. Social media is increasingly breaking up mainstream narratives that were carefully curated to control collective behavior. The fragmentation social media creates is actually a beautiful thing. There’s now space for every kind of voice.
