Describe yourself in three words.
Stubborn New Yorker.
From your extensive experience in the modeling industry, what advice would you give to aspiring models on navigating the challenges and opportunities within the industry?
Trust your intuition and never feel guilty about honoring yourself. The right people will appreciate and respect it. The wrong ones won’t.
How do you prepare for a photoshoot, and what are some behind-the-scenes aspects of modeling that your followers might be surprised to learn about?
Good night’s sleep, lots of water, and personal training. I’m not sure what followers might be surprised about in regards to behind-the-scenes aspects! The shoes are usually too large or too small due to the limited sample sizes available so often times you have to either squeeze in or pray that you don’t break an ankle.
You’ve worked with various brands and designers throughout your career. Is there a particular project or collaboration that stands out to you, and why?
I’m a nostalgic person so I would have to say the magazines I’ve worked with since the start of my career in Cyprus. I had the chance to experience different parts of the island only known to locals, as well as be styled in all of the latest designer clothing such as Chloe, Max Mara, Jil Sander, and Versace, to name a few.
Could you share insights into how you approach personal branding and differentiation in the competitive modeling industry?
Thankfully, my career in modeling existed right before the social media boom we see today. I have no idea how I would have branded myself and I have the highest respect for those who have to do it now.
How do you stay current with the evolving trends in the fashion and modeling industry, and how do these trends influence your work?
Honestly, I think my partner has a better understanding of fashion than I do. If I could be in a sweater and sweatpants or a tee shirt and jeans all day, I would. There are a lot of days I just turn to him and ask him to help me put an outfit together… those are the only days I get complimented.
How did you get started in acting?
Funny story: My mom had a friend studying at NYU for directing when I was maybe 6 or 7. She was putting together a short film and had me play the part of a daughter to a jazz musician. I’ve loved it ever since.
What is the best and worst part of being an actress?
The best part is the surreal joy you feel from being on set and getting to play with your imagination for a living. The worst is probably the mental comedown you experience after a job is completed.
Tell us about your work in the film “KNOX GOES AWAY?”
I play the wife of Al Pacino, who is Knox’s closest friend and confidant. The character is Ukrainian, owns a dance academy and cares deeply for those close to her.
How challenging was the casting for this project?
I think Michael Keaton had a very clear understanding of who he was looking for with each character. I submitted a tape, had a phone conversation with him, and thankfully the rest was history.
How was working with such a talented cast?
Legendary.
How do you prepare for a challenging role, especially when it requires you to step far outside of your own experiences or personality?
I panic! No, I’m a big researcher. I talk to as many people as I can who’ve lived it so I can gain understanding. I read. After I feel I’ve gathered enough information, I start exploring and putting it into motion with my coach.
Of all the characters you’ve portrayed, which one do you feel closest to or most proud of, and why?
I feel proudest of Ludmilla from Knox Goes Away because I’m able to be an authentic global representative for my country, Ukraine.
What kind of roles do you like or would like to play, and why?
I have a soft spot for comedy roles. I don’t take life too seriously; there are so many things out of our control. Laughter is my favorite medicine.
How would your best friend describe you?
She’s repeatedly described me as a cat, if that helps paint a picture.
As a popular model and actress, you are followed by so many people. How do you feel about the pressure of always doing the right thing and encouraging people to follow their dreams?
I definitely feel the pressure of ‘doing the right thing’, and it can be paralyzing. I often have to ask myself “what is the most politically correct way to say this or depict this”? It’s a skill in itself that I’m still evolving in. Hopefully, people know I’m doing the best I can and am here for others to shine as well.
Which place that you have visited do you think changed you in a particular way, maybe for motivation or to see a different reality, etc.?
My heart will always be with Greece. America is very capitalistic in its lifestyle and motivations, but Greece offered me a unique insight into what it means to live a life you enjoy: the sea, sun, good food, and the importance of leisure.
What is your favorite cheat food?
Pizza and McDonald’s.
How would you explain your fashion style?
One of my stylists created a great saying for me to use for fittings, it’s giving “classic with a pop”.
What is your own definition of happiness?
Home.
If you could meet someone living or dead, who would it be and why?
I’d humorously opt for a historical religious figure. Meeting one would offer a practical opportunity to settle ongoing debates between myth and reality.
Do you support any charities?
Yes! The LA Mission and Ace of Hearts.
What is your favorite song to belt out in the car or for karaoke?
Stand By Me by Ben E. King.
