Hi Mandy, please tell us your story, who are you, where are you coming from and a little about yourself.
Hi everyone! So excited to be doing this! I am a singer/rapper from Richmond, Virginia, now living in L.A. on a journey to make my mark in history. I’ve always been a pop star drama-queen at heart. Music has always been my main source of expression, I’m also a huge fan of writing and dancing. I’m 23, and I’m feeling more ready than ever to take on the world and show everyone what I’ve got.
Tell us about your new EP, “Hurricane Mandy”, what’s the vibe and how was the creative process to complete it?
My EP ‘Hurricane Mandy’ is a little glimpse into the chaos and brilliance of being me. It shows my sassy side, my empowered side, and even the darker sides of me. The whole EP has a very in-your-face edge to it, just to give the world a taste of my personality. Every song has its own creative process to it, which makes each one special.
Tell us how your viral moment happened and how you got discovered by Tommy Brown.
Tommy Brown discovered my talent through an open verse challenge he posted on Instagram. I created a verse to one of his beats, which quickly caught his attention, sparking discussions about collaborating. Shortly thereafter, a video of my song RHS went viral on TikTok, further solidifying my desire to seek Tommy’s assistance in completing the record. Without hesitation, I flew out to work with him, and since December 2022, we’ve been collaborating tirelessly on various projects.
Who influences you musically, and why did you choose to become an artist?
I pull inspiration from all artists, and I think there is something to learn from everyone. Nicki Minaj was a huge inspiration to my rap journey, I’m also very inspired by artists like Qveen Herby, who built her name up on her own. It’s very refreshing to see women being go-getters in this business and making big things happen. I didn’t choose to become an artist; I was simply born to do this. It’s the only thing that ever made sense for me and my path.
Do you play any instruments? And how do you incorporate into your music writing or production?
I do, I play piano and ukulele, I also play guitar and violin.I started my songwriting journey by playing instruments only, and just started getting into creating beats in the last year. I definitely use my piano skills when making a beat, MIDI keyboards are a staple to me.
What’s the story behind the Hurricane Mandy single?
I made Hurricane Mandy with a few friends on my team. The song is all about my story of coming from Virginia to LA to pursue a dream, and is meant to inspire my listeners to never settle for anything less than exactly what they want out of life. We are so limitless and capable of incredible things when we step into our potential and take leaps of faith in ourselves.
Can you walk us through your creative process for writing/producing new music, where do your ideas come from?
An idea for a song can come from anywhere, you just have to look up and take in life. Sometimes, it comes from a life experience, from a dream or a quote I see on a street billboard. When it comes to creating, I use all my resources around me and within me to come up with something bigger than myself. There’s no step-by-step process. I just get inspired and start putting in the work!
How was working with GRAMMY Award-winning producer Tommy Brown?
Working with Tommy Brown and his team at Champagne Therapy Music Group has been a dream come true and I can’t wait to see all the greatness we accomplish together.
What’s next for Mandy Rose in 2024?
I’m currently in the studio recording new tracks, exploring new sounds and rhythms and I can’t wait to release some of the new music. Big things are in the works for 2024; just keep an eye out for some surprises!
