Tell us about your single, ‘WHERE DID IT ALL GO WRONG?’
‘WHERE DID IT ALL GO WRONG?’ Is a drum-driven, relatable alt/rock song about losing someone and not knowing how or why.
What’s the story behind the song?
The story behind the song is about somebody I used to see and a night I couldn’t remember, I woke up the next morning and they were gone, and I wasn’t sure how it got to that point, in the song I talk about how I was “bleeding out” I said that because in the first verse I talk about how they packed all there shit in the middle of the night but that’s not all they took, by that I meant they also took my heart with them, and that’s explains why I “woke up in the morning bleeding out”
Can you walk us through your creative process for this single? How did the idea come to life?
I was in the studio with John Feldmann and Lil Aaron and we were just going back and forth with ideas. John had come up with a melody on the guitar, and then Aaron and I started mulling. Aaron started singing the chorus melody, and we mumbled some verses and pre-choruses. I tracked drums and we all collaborated to make this incredible idea come to life.
Were there any specific experiences or emotions that fueled the writing and composition of this song?
I didn’t pull from a particular moment in my past to write the song; unfortunately, I had felt pretty numb to the situation, so bringing that up again definitely caused some old emotions to rise, like regret and wishing I could change what had happened.
How do you usually start working on a new song? Do you begin with lyrics, melodies, or a concept?
It all changes in every session; it just depends on the vibe, but most of the time I like to go off of a melody, usually guitar, and I come up with melodies to match that vibe. Lyrics and concepts usually come pretty easily when I allow myself to feel the melody and emotion the instrumental is giving me.
How involved were you in the production and arrangement of “WHERE DID IT ALL GO WRONG?”
I would say it was all pretty collaborative, but John absolutely killed the production. I tracked drums by just jamming the first couple takes, and then getting some ideas from both John and Aaron. I would say the whole song was pretty collaborative effort from everyone.
How was working with legendary producer John Feldman?
Working with John was incredible, he’s super quick with ideas, and I love that because I feel like I’m very fast paced; he’s super talented; and the energy in the room was great; I feel like you can even feel that in the song.
And about the huge success of your last viral release of “Sleep When I’m Dead?”
My viral moment with “SLEEP WHEN IM DEAD” was unreal. I am beyond blessed that I was able to reach that amount of people, and I can’t wait to continue to share my music and help more people with my platform. My dream is to “Kure the world” and heal people through my music, so I can’t wait to take all of my fans on this journey, and I can’t wait to meet everyone when I start performing live.
What book should every entrepreneur read?
The power of Self-Discipline.
What advice would you give to your younger self, and why?
Everything will work out; don’t lose faith. I’ve had lots of highs and lows because my whole life I’ve been chasing my dreams, and I feel like if I’d realized that everything would work out, it would’ve saved me from a lot of lows.
How would your best friend describe you?
I would say probably caring, passionate, funny, outgoing.
If you were a book, what would be the title of the book and why?
“diffrent perspectives” I feel like I always look at life through different lenses, so I feel like that title would make sense for me lol.
What’s next for Kami Kehoe in 2024?
I hopefully by then will have a crazy rock album out, with all the songs everyone’s been waiting for, and more. I definitely want to start touring and meeting all of my beautiful listeners. And getting to know my fans more, and connecting with each one of them.
What is your favorite healthy food?
I usually eat protein and veggies, so probably like chicken or fish with veggies lol
And your favorite cheat food?
Prob reeses pieces.
How would you explain your fashion style?
I would say my fashion style is pretty inspired by 80s rock fashion, but I also keep my outfits androgynous and modern.
What is your own definition of happiness?
I think happiness can come in all forms, but I think pure happiness is when you are at a point in your life where you feel the most in tune with and love for yourself. I think anytime I feel super happy with myself is when I feel the happiest towards life and others.
If you could meet someone living or dead, who would it be and why?
There’s definitely a handful of people I’d love to be in a room with but I think, as of right now, Joan Jett has been a huge inspo for my music and my message. And if I could have met Mac Miller before he passed, I would’ve loved to talk and write with him. Both of these artists have made a huge impact on my sound and myself.
Best advice ever given?
Short term sacrifice for a lifetime of blessing
Do you support any charities?
Not as of right now but I would absolutely love to!
Where do you see yourself and your career in 5 years?
In the next 5 years I see myself having multiple bodies of work out representing my sound and brand and hopefully helped millions of people by then, with my music, and platform.
What is your favorite song to belt out in the car or for karaoke?
If im being super honest I actually don’t sing in the car lol, but if I sing a song out loud its when I play my vinyl and its either a cage the elephant song or :the cure” song lol.
What do you think of social media?
I think social media has pros and cons but I think it’s a great tool I use to reach people and get my music out there, so I’m very thankful for it.
