Check out our interview with talented Country Artist Lauren Davidson.

Lauren Davidson is unconventional, inimitable, and unmissable. Blending New York City vibes with the rich tones of country music, she has created a genre all her own, and audiences and critics can’t get enough of her. She has made countless radio appearances, opened up for Old Dominion, LOCASH, and Carly Pearce, and this year performed at the creme of New York venues, Madison Square Garden, as part of PBR’s “Unleash the Beast” tour. She is New York’s own Urban-Country maven.

Lauren’s single “Soaking Up Every Second” was released to critical acclaim in 2019 with features on Popdust, Whiskey Riff, Taste of Country, and Spotify’s New Music Nashville, to name but a few. Taste of Country called the piece “an unabashed celebration of making the most out of every moment,” and Popdust described it as “a smooth-as-silk combination of Lady Antebellum and Kelsea Ballerini, gently [mingled with] her own powerhouse gusto.”

When she’s not selling out shows in the Tri-State area, and opening for A-list acts across the US, Lauren is crafting her latest EP in the studio. The release, titled “Love Ain’t Fair”, will feature five unique takes on the prototypical ‘love song’. In keeping with her brand, Davidson promises these will be “anything but traditional.”

Hi Lauren, please tell us a little about you?

To say it briefly- I’m Lauren Davidson and I am an Urban Country Artist from NYC, a member of the Grammy Recording Academy and a CMA Artist.

Describe yourself in 3 words?

Passionate, Determined, Human

We’re sure you have been asked this million times but how did you get in the industry?

My father was a singer songwriter and always was playing guitar (and piano) around the house and I grew a love for singing before I could even speak. After practically growing up on a stage pursuing theatre, since age 10, I started writing my own songs, which lead me here to where I am today.

Describe your sound in 3 words?

Authentic. Hybrid. Urban Country (well thats 2 words but you get the idea)

Who influenced you and why did you choose to make music?

I’m heavily influenced by so many different artists- Stevie Nicks and Fleetwood Mac, Grace Potter, Shania Twain, Carole King to name a few. I love female voices. I chose to make music because I’m so beyond passionate about it once I had a taste of sharing my songs and stories with people I really couldn’t picture myself doing anything else.

Do you play any instrument?

I play some basic guitar.

Do you ever get nervous?

All the damn time!

Tell us about your new single “Find Me?”

“Find Me” is the 3rd song off of my Love Ain’t Fair EP. All of these songs are non-traditional songs about love – love lost, fighting for love and in this case loving yourself.

What’s the story behind this song?

Its so easy to make sacrifices for the ones we love and sometimes lose a piece of our true selves in that and after a relationship ends its really empowering to get reacquainted with your true self and reevaluate your needs and wants and worth. “Find Me” is my journey and realization of that moment.

What is fun and rewarding about what you do? And what’s not?

Seeing how music connects people and connects me with other people is beyond rewarding. Having to wear so many hats sometimes can weigh on me.

What are the five things you can’t live without?

Iced coffee, my iPhone, music, wine, my family

What’s next for Lauren Davidson in 2020?

Continuing to release this Love Ain’t Fair EP and hopefully get back out on the road.

What is you favorite song? And why?

I have a different favorite song every day because I use music to tell a mood and listen to music that way as well. One day I can listen to the same song 100 times on repeat and the next skip over it.

What book should every entrepreneur read?

I just finished Girl Code and I’m obsessed.

What is the toughest decision you had to make in the last few months?

To stay home.

Any loves other than music?

I love soapy drama TV – One Tree Hill is one of my favorites

If you could meet someone living or dead, who would it be and why?

Id love to meet Billy Joel – I grew up loving his music and always said I probably wouldn’t be able to keep my cool if I ever met him.

Best advice ever given?

No doesn’t mean NO it just means not right now. (Thanks Dad!)

How’s a typical day in your life?

These days this looks differently but a little exercise, a little music business and a little time for creativity.

Idea of a perfect Sunday?

Doing absolutely nothing, or hanging and day drinking somewhere outdoors with friends on a beautiful day.

What is you favorite song to belt out in the car/for karaoke?

You Oughta Know – Alanis Morissette

What is your own definition of happiness?

I think this changes but being surrounded by the ones I love and making music.

Do you support any charities?

Wounded Warriors, St Jude and Musicians on Call.

What is your favorite healthy food?

Avocado.

And your favorite cheat food?

All the sweets.

What would be a deal breaker on a first date?

I think first dates alone are awkward so not able to have good conversation would definitely be a deal breaker.

How do you see yourself in 5 years?

Hopefully living on a tour bus touring the world

How would you describe your fashion style?

Edgy meets Boho.

What do you think of Social Media?

Its been a great tool for me as an artist but not gonna lie I would be happy without it.
